Senior Goodbye: Tahyia Alvi
As I type this message, it feels unreal to bid farewell to my friends, professors and colleagues at IU South Bend. It’s safe to say that this campus has been my home away from home. Here, I had the honor of meeting the most helpful and courteous professors in the College of Liberal Arts, who pushed me to be great, not just as a student, but also as a politically aware human being.
The former location of IU South Bend’s bookstore in Northside Hall will soon be home to an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center.
LUNAFEST is a package of short film festivals that travels internationally through Canada and the United States. It was started by Clif Bar & Company, which makes LUNA bars. To get more information about LUNAFEST, I asked Barbara Williams, the president of Michiana Charitable Festivals, a co-host with Indiana University South Bend for LUNAFEST Michiana 2023.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is one of the most sacred time for Muslims. This year, Ramadan will take place from the evening of March 22 to the evening of April 20. During this month, Muslims observe a daily fast from dawn until sunset. This month is also filled with worship, service, communal gathering and spiritual development. Fasting is seen as an act of worship to gain further closeness with God as well as a form of spiritual disciple and a means to empathize with those less fortunate.
Mark your calendar for April 10 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. You’ll be busy in the University Grill enjoying mocktails and painting in a fairy-themed oasis with the Queer Straight Alliance and the Art Club.
Welcome back to another week of Sip & Study! This week’s cafe adventure was a bit different than usual, but equally if not more exciting than previous ones. On March 28, local co-working space LangLab held a private event to introduce their new project, an artist-run cafe. The event was to test out and evaluate menu items, explain the project and get a feel for what the cafe will be like when it opens in approximately three weeks.
The Student Government Association met on March 31 to discuss funding requests and report on upcoming events.
With spring officially in the air, the IU South Bend softball team has hit the ground running for their season. The Titans traveled to Melbourne, Fla. during spring break to take part in 10 games during their trip.
