Advertising and Marketing students travel to Chicago

Editor-in-Chief

Students from the Advertising and Marketing clubs attended a Young Professional’s Career Day hosted by the Chicago Advertising Federation in Downtown Chicago on Feb. 25.

“The day was full of valuable knowledge, panel discussions, and networking opportunities for students,” said Bryan Gonzalez-Villalobos, President of Marketing Club.

This day was an opportunity for students to gain experience by networking with Chicago and globally based advertising companies. Students were able to learn from professionals on the newest advertising trends. They were also given tips on how to stand out during the hiring process and other advice as professionals early in their careers.

“One of the main ideas that our group learned at the 2022 edition was that privacy laws have turned the tables for Advertisers. Cookies are not as effective at gathering data as they used to be due to these laws, and companies like Apple have made data collection much harder for advertisers. As future advertisers, we will need to learn how to personalize content without using cookies, find alternative ways of tracking (like IP tracking), and produce more engaging advertisements for better conversion rates,” Gonzalez-Villalobos said.

While this year had a smaller turn out than expected, students were able to have wonderful conversations between themselves and the employers. Students from other Indiana schools were also in attendance. They were able to attend this event at no cost thanks to the Student Government Association.

The Advertising and Marketing clubs at IU South Bend host various workshops for students throughout the semester to learn skills useful in the workplace. They are also able to help connect students with alumni and professionals from both national and local companies.
