CORRECTION NOTICE: the version of this article that appeared in print on Feb. 19 and on this website until Feb. 25 misrepresented the presidential candidates. Quotes attributed to Jesuri Vazquez were fabricated, and the writer falsely implied that Vazquez was interviewed by The Preface, while opponent Grace Merrill was not. Neither Vazquez nor Merrill were interviewed. The version below has been edited to remove all incorrect information and falsely attributed quotes.
The Preface takes seriously our credibility and responsibility to provide students with a trustworthy news source. Elections for next year’s Student Government Association representatives will take place March 25. This year, two candidates will run for president.
Originally serving in the SGA as Housing and Athletics Liaison, junior Jesuri Vazquez was appointed to a senator position on Jan. 31, giving her the semester of experience necessary to run for president. She is a graphic design major.
Per her campaign flyer, Vazquez’s priorities include student engagement, mental health and providing funding for conferences and unique student experiences.
Also running is Grace Merrill, a junior biochemistry major on a pre-dental track. Merrill has been a senator in the SGA since Fall 2024 and is president of the American Red Cross club as well as a first year seminar peer mentor.
Vazquez and Merrill did not respond to requests for comment by the time of publication.
Through Titan Atlas on March 25, students will have the chance to vote for a representative they feel most suited for them. Students will also vote for senators and candidates for other executive positions, including vice president, treasurer and secretary.
