CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER. Vice President Saleh presents Senator Merrill with this week’s Senator Shout Out.

This week’s Student Government Association meeting kicked off with the Senator Shout Out, give to Senator Grace Merrill. Vice President Saleh explained that Senator Merill is the President of the American Red Cross Club as well as the head of SGA’s Safety and Wellness Committee, stating that she is very involved on campus and is always looking to motivate others, especially in relation to fitness.
Adviser Scott Strittmatter mentioned an Election Forum on Nov. 6, which will be hosted by the Office of Student Life in partnership with the SGA. The point of the event will be to give students a respectful place to talk about expectations, fears and questions following this year’s presidential election. Adviser Strittmatter also shared his wishes that everybody take care of themselves this exam season.
Multiple committee chairs detailed events their committees are planning. The Safety and Wellness Committee will hold a forum today, Oct. 30, from 7-8 p.m. in the Community Building, where committee members will discuss general safety and wellness topics.
The Diversity and Inclusion Committee will host their Latin Dance on Nov. 14 from 5-8 p.m. in the Grill.
Finally, the Philanthropy Committee will host a tie blanket event in the Student Activities Center from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Nov. 12. The tie blankets that are made at the event will be donated to local shelters and nursing homes.
Parliamentarian Daniel Edmonds provided closure on the disruptive construction that’s been going on around campus recently. All doors in Wiekamp have been officially replaced, pending finishing touches. Balcony painting in River Crossing Campus Housing is in progress, and the boiler project has been completed.
Parliamentarian Edmonds also mentioned that the Alumni and Event office will be moving to the University Center near the bookstore in order to make room for CUBE offices.
For the good of the order, Senator Mariem Boussaha brought Creative Dining Services’ discussion in Fireside to the attention of the SGA. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to noon on Nov. 1.
The SGA meets every Friday from 10 a.m. to noon in SAC 206 or 225. Meetings are open to the public, and students are encouraged to attend.
