Many shelters rely on fosters to help take care of their animals. Fosters give a home to an animal who needs a place to relax and grow as they wait for their fur-ever home. Shelters and rescues will provide foster parents with food and medications and take care of vet bills.
Some local rescues, like Heartland Small Animal Rescue and Tracking in the Shadows – Dog Rescue, rely on fosters as the main place to hold their furry (or feathery and scaly) residents. Rescues like All 4 Animals Rescue have a main location for their inhabitants, but they do rely on fosters to take care of some of their cats and dogs.
In this issue of Titan Tails, I wanted to highlight a dog and a cat that are in foster: Poppy and Penny.
Poppy
Poppy is a pitbull-terrier mix. Her birthday is June 5, 2022, and she weighs about 60 lbs. It takes her a bit to warm up to you but once she does, she is the sweetest girl! She gets along with other dogs and young children. Since she is initially nervous, so she would need a slow introduction to any new dogs.
She has helped her foster mom with the other dogs she has fostered. She loves to sleep and will not be the first puppy to wake up. When you come home, she will get a boost of energy and play. She’s waiting in her foster home for a paw-some family. Her adoption fee is $250.
Penny
Penny is a short-haired cat. Her birthday is April 26, 2021. She came to her foster mom with five kittens, and she was the best mom! Her kittens were adopted out some time ago, so now she is waiting for her turn. She gets along with children, dogs and other cats. She has been at Petco and Petsmart and has gained some weight, so she is exercising more.
Penny enjoys being with people and will purr while you are petting her. She has her own little quirks, like being in the bathroom while her foster mom showers and then yelling at her while she is getting out. She’s waiting in her foster home for her purr-fect family. Her adoption fee is $75.
