Raylee ‘The Fool’ Hardee
The first thing people usually mention when asked how the holiday came about in the first place is Ray the Foolhardy. Or, if they’ve done a little more research, Raylee ‘The Fool’ Hardee. And while there was actually a famous court case involving someone by that name way back in cowboy times in the wild, wild west, the story is widely misrepresented.
The most commonly told version of the story says that ol’ Ray went around stealing horses all day every day, riding them around in circles, and when he was finally brought into the local courthouse on charges of theft, he pled innocent because it was “April Fool’s Day”. Story goes, he spent the next 45 minutes convincing everyone in the room (judge included) that this completely made-up holiday was a big city holiday that he had seen in his travels.
However, actual first-hand accounts of this trial can be found in some places. And unfortunately for Ray the Foolhardy, reality looks much less glamorous and much more tragic. His trial was cut short when a stampede of bulls crashed right into and out of the courthouse, flattening the building in minutes. There would have been no time for him to even plead his case.
Fool Inc.
We all know about the classic April Fool’s tradition of hiring a Traditional Fool to Fool Around at your enemy’s (or enemies’) house(s). And we also all know that Fool Inc. has been the primary provider of these Fool Services for as long as any of us can remember. After all, they provide the highest quality, highest class Fools with the most illustrious pedigrees.
Because of this, some Facebook users have taken to the platform to accuse Fool Inc. of inventing April Fool’s day to profit off of their excess of Fools who would otherwise just mill about, morosely pranking each other. While this accusation does have some convenient evidence, our independent research indicates that there is no merit whatsoever to this story.
The Truth
April Fool’s Day actually does have a specific, real origin though. Our reporters at the PostButt found a thorough account of this history at www.foolinc.com/aprilfeule, which we will summarize for you here.
April Feule was a French woman who came to America for a social media job in 2015. She was shunned by her colleagues for being incredibly gullible and clumsy. One fateful April 1, she was taking pictures at a nuclear power plant for their Instagram page and fell into a spent fuel pool.
Her soul and body, and probably other stuff too, were shattered across realities and in the moment of her dispersal she vowed to get back at everyone who had ever wronged her. April Fool’s day was implanted into every single person’s brain as a false memory with an Americanized pronunciation and this allowed April Feule to begin pranking the world, sending her Fool Minions on their terrible, terrible missions.
