Softball and baseball season are right around the corner, which might be surprising with this weather we have going on. Both teams start up their season in February: baseball starts on Feb. 7 in San Antonio, Texas and softball starts Feb. 14 in Rosemont, Illinois. This season, the softball team is starting fresh with new Head Coach Annie Dehnke.
Senior Braedon Leathed (outfield/infield) said he is looking forward to a fresh start this season.
“The team this year has a lot of new guys, and I think it’s a good thing, because last year was just a tough year, but this year we have a solid group,” he said. “There are a lot of fun guys to be around and when we have each other’s company it’s rewarding, so having that connection allows us to play freely and lose without feeling so remorseful, but last year I just don’t think my team had that.”
Although he knows the future is uncertain, he said he is hopeful about the season’s possibilities.
“I’m just excited about the untapped potential that I feel is waiting to be released. The only challenges we might face is the ability to handle adversity like last year,” he said. “But I feel like we will respond well to the challenges we will have to face. I think the season is going to be as good as we can make it. I think if we stay hungry and we stay determined, we have what it takes to really flip the script compared to last year.”
