The women’s and men’s basketball teams have officially begun playing in their conference. The men’s team is 1-1 in conference and 4-5 overall, with the women 2-1 in conference and 7-1 overall. The Titans are just getting started, and both teams are starting off strong with outstanding players.
For the men’s team, senior Jylen Petty is averaging about 14 points per game, and junior Nick Mullen is close behind with about 11 points per game. Coming in hot for the women, senior Tenleigh Phelps is averaging about 22 points per game. Jazmen Watts, a fifth-year student, is averaging about 15 points per game.
Looking at the double header vs. Holy Cross, both teams dominated and showed out to bring in the win. The men won 65-49 with the women not too far ahead, winning 74-64. Phelps had a season high of 41 points, playing 37 of the 40 minutes of the game. She currently holds a record for most points in a single game; she was just two points shy of beating her own record.
The men had three players tie for a game-high of 10 points: Petty, Mullen and senior Shawn Brown. At the time of publication, the next home game for the Titans will both be Tuesday, Dec. 10, the men playing Governors State at 7:30 p.m. and the women at 5:30 p.m. playing IU Columbus.
After Winter Break, the Titans will return to the action Jan. 4. Softball and baseball will soon be back at it, too, so stay tuned for games coming February 2025.
