A stabbing was reported on Nov. 21 on Northside Boulevard. The suspect was described as a six-foot-tall black male with a muscular build wearing all-black clothing and holding a knife. A person whose identity is not public was walking to their car around 8:30 p.m. and witnessed the attempted carjacking, at which point the suspect stabbed the victim.
IUPD confirmed that neither individual was affiliated with IU South Bend and that the suspect fled west away from campus. IUPD then issued guidance that there was no threat to campus and that students were safe to resume normal activities.
Authorities were later informed about a victim at the hospital. The South Bend Police Department took over the investigation since the carjacking occurred outside of the university’s property line. The victim did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.
At the time of writing, IUPD was not able to grant The Preface additional information about this case, and the South Bend Police Department did not respond to requests for comment in time for publication. The Preface will publish updates as necessary should the case develop. Anyone that has any information is encouraged to leave an anonymous tip by calling the Michiana Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP (7867) or contacting IUPD at 574-520-4239.
