The Titans’ women’s volleyball season has been going on for a few weeks. They have an overall record of 2-23 and a 2-7 record for the conference. The Titans are ending their season with only four matches left – catch their next home game at the SAC on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. versus Saint Ambrose.
The Titans took the floor on Sept. 27 and lost in their final non-conference game. They lost in three matches against IU Kokomo. The Titans showed out with the first match, but IU Kokomo came back to win. They came out weak in the second match with a slow start, leading the Cougars of IU Kokomo to win match two. Again, with match three the Titans started strong but couldn’t contain the heat from IU Kokomo and took the final loss.
According to Titans website, Macy Sherman and Audrey Buis led offense with seven and six kills, respectively.
“Setter Brynn Lake led the passing game with 20 assists while defensive specialist Sydney Hanna finished with a game-high 21 digs,” the website read.
The end of this season will mark their first full run with new head coach Cali Topolski. The Titans have seemed to adapt well to Topolski, who is highly experienced in volleyball. Sherman, as well as defensive specialist Suriya Van der Oord, are the team’s seniors who will hang up their jerseys after this season.
The team’s final home game of the season will be on Nov. 6 versus Viterbo University at 6 p.m.
While one team winds down, another winds up: Titan women’s basketball played their first scrimmage on Oct. 19, with the next to follow on Oct. 24. Their first official game is Nov. 2 versus Mount Vernon Nazarene at noon.
Senior guard Amaya Rufus said, “I am most excited to get back playing on the court because I haven’t played since last November when I tore my ACL. Our biggest challenge will be teaching our new girls our system and getting them used to college basketball. Our chemistry off the court is great, we have to carry that over on the court.”
The Titans are back-to-back CCAC champs, setting high standards for their season, but Amaya says, “Our season will be just as good as it always has been, because it starts with our coach, who has led us to success every year.”
