IU South Bend’s Academic Centers for Excellence offers a variety of resources for students to use in order to excel in their education. IU South Bend’s ACE also offers multiple scholarships to students who use their services during the semester.

ACE’s tutoring services are free for students in need of additional help with their coursework; tutors in most educational areas are available. Students have the ability to choose from any of the four centers offered by ACE.

The centers “help students master content and develop skills and strategies for academic success,” the website states.

The Math Tutoring Center is in Northside Hall and gives students the opportunity to take part in virtual or in-person services for assistance with their math courses. The Learning Center is in the Schurz Library and offers assistance with courses including chemistry, business, economics, world languages, physics, biology, public speaking, music and more.  This center also offers virtual and in-person services.

The Computer Science and Informatics Tutoring Center is in Northside Hall and has tutors available to assist with science-based courses. The Writers’ Room is in the Schurz Library and offers help with all types of writing. They are there to assist with grammatical errors, research struggles and various other issues students may face while writing. Both of these centers are available in-person and online.

Students may also sign up for a Study Smarter Coach, a one-on-one tutoring option to improve organization and methods of studying, or a WriteWell Coach, which offers one-on-one tutoring to improve writing skills.

While the tutoring centers are excellent resources for students who need a little extra help, there is also a $500 scholarship that is awarded to five students who use the centers throughout the semester. Students who have visited the tutoring centers at least five times throughout the semester may be eligible for the scholarship.

Students can go to One.IU and search “scholarships” to access the list of available scholarship applications. Those who have used ACE at least five times can apply to the IUSB-Spring ACE Scholarship found on the list.
