Your semester in review: Upcoming event to round off spring 2021

With the spring semester finishing up, many events are taking place at IU South Bend. Here’s a glance at what is happening:

Wednesday, April 21: River Fest at IU Day is back once again at IU South Bend. This event will be held outdoors to celebrate the end of the year and IU Day. Free food, IU merch giveaways and local bands are set to play.

Join Icarus Account at 12:30 p.m. with a drive-in concert in the SAC parking lot. At 2:30 p.m., join Arts Fishing Club for their live performance. Don’t have a car? There are four-person pods that can be reserved at Greenlawn. 

The first 200 people who RSVP will receive a free lunch and giveaways.

Wednesday, April 21:  Bringing Recovery Awareness Voices and Engagement or BRAVE training will be happening via Zoom from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. The training focuses on the foundations of keeping IU South Bend sexual violence free.

Wednesday, April 21: Sam Buchanan, an environmental educator for the St. Joseph County Soil and Water Conservation District, will join the Center for Sustainable future for a talk on pollinator-friendly planting from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Join the talk live on the Center for a Sustainable Future’s Youtube: youtube.com/sustainthefuture.  

Thursday, April 22: HealthLinc will host a vaccine clinic at the SAC. Students can get their first dose of the Moderna Vaccine, and come back May 20 for the second dose. To register, call 1-888-580-1060 Ext. 6404.

Thursday, April 22: The Veteran’s Book Club will discuss Powder: Writing by Women in the Ranks, from Vietnam to Iraq on Zoom from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. This is the last meeting of the semester. If you have questions or would like a free copy of the book, contact Rhonda Culbertson at rculbert@iusb.edu

Thursday, April 22: Dr. Dè Bryant will be joining the Psychology Club for “What is a Community Psychologist?” During this presentation, Dr. Bryant will be speaking on what it means to be a community psychologist and the issues they would see in the field. The club will meet on Zoom from 6:30 -7:30. RSVP on Titan Atlas.

Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24: The Honor’s Club, biology students, and MLS students will be planting trees, native shrubs, removing invasive species, and picking up trash at Veterans Memorial Park. 

Monday, April 26: The Fine Arts BFA show will officially open in the Gallery in EA. The show will run until May 6. The Gallery is open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Thursday, April 29: The Student Government Association is set to host their annual Student Life Awards via Zoom from 7 p.m. – 8  p.m. Award nominees and winners will be announced for the 2020-2021 Student Life Awards.

Thursday, April 29: The Queer Straight Alliance will be handing out goodie bags at their Self-Care Sweet Bags event for students in Fireside A and B from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. Each bag is $4, and there are only 40 bags.

Each bag contains either hot chocolate and a sweet snack or tea and a healthy snack. Both options have a sheet mask, bubbles, coloring pages, snacks and a special surprise.

Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1: The Honors program, biology program, and MLS program will be hosting their last session of the Earth Day/Arbor Day celebration. Join them at campus housing as they plant trees on campus, work in the campus wetlands and help with the IUSB garden project.

In addition, on Friday, there will be a campus poetry reading on trees by the Campus Tree Committee. This is set to take place at 1:30 p.m. on Greenlawn.
