Meet the staff: Rafael Tortolero

I’ve always loved photography, but it wasn’t until junior year of high school when I joined the news program at school that I discovered my love for journalism. My senior year, I got second place for photojournalism in a state-wide competition, and that’s when I decided to pursue this passion. 

Outside of school, I like going to the gym and listening to music. I mostly listen to Latin music. Some of my favorite artists are Bad Bunny, Micro TDH and Feid. If you would like to get into that kind of music, I’d highly encourage you to check them out. 

One fun fact about me is that I was born in Venezuela. I moved here at the age of 12 due to the country’s condition. It was very hard adapting to a new culture at first, but slowly, I made this place a home. I arrived here not knowing any English, and after some months of struggle, I finally started to be fluent in it. I find it funny that some people don’t even realize I was born somewhere else and lived there most of my life. 

I am very excited to be part of this awesome team. So far, I’ve had a lot of fun working with them and I think we can do really amazing things together.
