Reigning Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) champions IU South Bend Titans are picking up right where they left off, starting this season 6-0. The Titans went 2-0 last week, beating the Bethel University Pilots on Nov. 15 with a score of 88-65 and the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines on Nov. 11 with a score of 98-50.
On Nov. 8, Holy Cross College hosted its annual CCAC-Crossroads Challenge where IU South Bend’s men’s basketball team squared off against their cross-town rivals, the Bethel University Pilots. The Titans would drop a close one 76-73.
IU South Bend’s women’s basketball team tips off in less than a week, looking to repeat as Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) champions.
Across the country, there has been a movement towards more adaptive sports programs. Here in South Bend, you may not have known that we have our own adaptive team: the River City Rollers. The Rollers are a wheelchair basketball team based out of South Bend open for anyone to join. They get together on Thursdays and Sundays at the SAC here at IU South Bend.
IU South Bend men’s basketball kicks off soon. Before they do, it's important to know who your 2023-2024 Titans are. Last season, the Titans finished the season 23-9 with a 15-5 CCAC (Chicagoland Collegiate Athletics Conference) record. The Titans would go on to finish in fourth place in the CCAC. However, the Titans basketball team has a thing for going dancing, as they were able to win the CCAC tournament.
IU South Bend is still very new in its development as an athletic powerhouse, and one man who was influential in the growth of the department was Steve Bruce, the veteran IU South Bend athletics director who is passing the torch this year.
If you have ever been to an IU South Bend men’s or women’s basketball game, you probably heard the prominent voice of Duane Lewandowski, who has been the IU South Bend Public Address Announcer and official scorebook keeper for 26 years.
The IU South Bend women’s basketball team began their season in Nov. 2022, and have continued into the new year leading the conference with 11 wins and one loss, and 16 wins overall (as of Jan. 17).
The IU South Bend men’s basketball team has been known to break school records and dominate conferences, and this year is no different. The team welcomes junior transfer Dejon Barney from Lincoln College, who has helped the team continue their streak.
