As the 2025 spring season concludes, IU South Bend’s softball and baseball teams reflect on a year marked by resilience, development and standout performances.
The softball team, under the new guidance of Head Coach Annie Dehnke, showcased determination throughout the season. Coach Dehnke, who joined the Titans in August 2024, brought fresh energy and a focus on character-driven recruitment to the program.
Senior Maddie Leisher led the offense with a .349 batting average and a .721 slugging percentage, contributing 13 RBIs and four triples. Jordan Watts also made significant contributions, batting .381 with 10 RBIs. Pitcher Abigail Yarnell anchored the defense, recording six assists in a single game against William Penn on February 15.
“The team’s commitment to growth and unity has been inspiring. We’ve laid a strong foundation for the future,” Coach Dehnke said.
The baseball team faced a season of highs and lows but demonstrated perseverance throughout. Freshman pitcher Andrew Parker emerged as a promising talent, recording five strikeouts in a shutout inning against Rochester.
Offensively, Jack Ryan led the team with a .315 batting average and 15 RBIs, while Kaleb Farnham matched his 23 hits and added 15 RBIs. Braedon Leathed contributed significantly, with a .300 batting average and 13 RBIs. Ryan was named CCAC player of the week for April 14-19, with 22 RBIS, four doubles, four home runs, a .550 batting average and a 1.350 slugging percentage that week.
Coach Doug Buysse emphasized the importance of character in building a successful team, stating, “We recruit character. We want people with that, and then we look at talent and work ethics.”
As both teams conclude their seasons, the experiences and lessons learned set the stage for future success. With a blend of seasoned players and emerging talent, IU South Bend’s softball and baseball programs are poised for continued growth and achievement in the coming years.
