The IU South Bend Titans took on the Holy Cross College Saints in a men’s basketball hometown classic. Despite a late rally by the Titans, the Saints won 84-79. The Saints capitalized on free throws in the final seconds that sealed their win.
This game featured good efficient offense from the Titans but poor defense and rebounding cost them the game. The Titans shot at an impressive 51.9%from three, making a season high 14 shots. The Titans also shot at 52.7% from field goals going 29-for-55.
The Titans only committed eight turnovers on the day, compared to the Saints with their 13.
The Titans rebounded a season low 18 to the Saints 37. This resulted in 17 second chance points for the Saints.
Holy Cross shot at an astounding 58.2% from field goals going 32-for-55. The Saints also shot at a high percentage from beyond the arc shooting at 53.8% going 7-for-13.
The Titans dug themselves in a hole early down 9-0 to start the game. The Titans came back taking the lead 14-11, after a three by Miguel Mahan. As the first half led on the Saints regained control of the lead slowly building upon it.
By halftime, the Titans were down 44-34.
The Saints controlled the lead the entire second half. The Saints led by as much as 18 points. With 20 seconds left Dylan Allen made a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 5 points.
The chance of a comeback ended on the following possession when the Saints made a pair of free throws going up 7 with 13 seconds remaining.
Dylan Allen led the scoring for the Titans with 22 points going 6-for-14.
