On Nov. 9, The Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley hosted an event called “Insight and Analysis on Israel’s War with Hamas”. The event was held over Zoom and was hosted by Bob Feferman, who started off the event by thanking the sponsors: Jewish Federation of Fort Wayne, Jewish Federation of Northern Indiana and Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley.
Information about developments in Israel and Palestine is at our fingertips, and with multiple different narratives fighting for dominance, The Preface decided to ask IU South Bend students what they think.
As political discussions move into personal social media spaces, consumers can be confronted with a range of challenges. For many social media users, the influx of political content can be a source of irritation and stress; others think social media has no real effect on current events; others still believe it can be a beneficial way to help people get involved with issues that are important to them.
Discerning facts about global issues with complex histories is no easy task. Especially with near-infinite streams of information, which can report similar information while also telling completely different stories, it’s difficult to make sense of what is true and important. Part of the path to information literacy is understanding language.
The Israel-Palestine conflict has been a crisis for several decades now. From Israel declaring independence in 1948, to the Suez crisis of 1956 and on, there is a long line of history between Israelis and Palestinians that have inhabited the land. As new developments emerge, it is easy for misinformation or misrepresentations of ethnic groups to slip into the media, creating confusion and false information. This article is here to provide facts about Israel and Palestine and help you make sense of different news coverage you might see.
