This week, I decided to go out to Niles, Mich., which is about a 30-minute drive from IU South Bend’s campus. A few small businesses have been added to Niles’ downtown area, including a new coffeehouse named 2nd & Main located at 127 E Main St.

Welcome back to a new school year and a new semester of Sip & Study! For any new readers, Sip & Study highlights and reviews local coffee shops to give students recommendations on different spaces to hang out with friends, do some homework or just grab a quick cup of coffee. I’m so excited to be back for my final year of this column, and I look forward to trying some new coffee.
Whether you are clinging to a travel mug on your way to class or rushing out to refuel with an iced drink from one of the shops in Ash’s Sip & Study column, it’s impossible to imagine a day without coffee. The caffeine refreshes you, and there is something incredible about the soothing, rich flavor.
This week I decided to go to St. Joe Coffee Co. inside the library in downtown South Bend. It is located at 305 S. Michigan St. Despite being a coffee fanatic, I had never actually been here before, so I was super excited to visit.

Kodachrome Coffee, formerly known as Zen, is a cafe in the downtown South Bend area that has been around since 2010. The shop is located at 530 E. Lasalle Ave. in South Bend.
