Welcome back to the second week of Sip & Study! This week, I decided to visit a place I hadn’t been to before. Recently, a new coffee shop and bakery opened in Granger called Caffe Capriccio.
Caffe Capriccio is located at 200 Perspective Dr. near Heritage Square. The shop is a sister branch under the same ownership as Gabrizio Italian Cafe and Bakery in Niles, Mich. Although the shops are similar, there are a few differences in the menu and decorations. The inside of the cafe is charming, with fake plants and rustic wooden floorboards used to decorate the walls. Soft jazz is played in the background, helping to create the atmosphere of a European bakery or cafe.
Caffe Capriccio has mostly small tables, seating two to four people each. Wi-Fi is available, and there are a few places to charge phones or computers for anyone looking to do some work or study. It was fairly busy, but I still had no trouble finding somewhere to sit. The baristas were very friendly compared to many places and seemed to really enjoy being there.
There are various specialty lattes, as well as other non-coffee beverages based on traditional European coffee. I ordered an iced capriccio with oat milk, which is a latte with hazelnut butter and white chocolate. The latte was on the sweeter side, almost like eating a pastry, but not too sweet that it overpowered the coffee, either. I would like to go back and try some of the other drinks as well, because there were some other unique flavors. I also got a cannoli that was amazing.
Owner Desyree Alberganti explained that the word capriccio can be interpreted as “treat yourself”, and that Caffe Capriccio is somewhere to spoil yourself and relax. She explained that she’s very proud of every aspect of her business, and that the love they have is a part of everything they do, starting from the kitchen all the way out to the customers.
Another important aspect is that nearly everything at Caffe Capriccio is made in house, from the pastries to the coffee syrups. Shift manager Amanda said that cannoli are very popular, and the most popular lattes are the capriccio and cinnamon churro latte.
Caffe Capriccio is a great environment for students to sit down and relax or finish schoolwork. I was very excited to visit and would recommend anybody to stop in to grab a drink or pastry in the future.
