March was designated as Women’s History Month by the National Women’s History Project in 1987. According to a Pew Research Center analysis of government data, it was found that women now account for more than half of the college-educated labor force in the United States.

In light of Women’s History Month, we asked some of the exceptional women from the Administration building to share a message about women in workspaces or their favorite quote about the significance of celebrating women around the world.

Here is what they had to say:

Admissions and International Student Services Office

“From an early age, I recall the women in my life who rose with the sun, labored the day long, and who – I hope – slept deeply in the satisfaction of so many jobs well done. Venturing out into the wider world, I continue to marvel at the women I encounter. Whether at the helm of a company, in the classroom, at the market stall or moving through the fields, women perform their daily tasks with dignity, efficacy, good humor and aplomb. I am inspired and strengthened by the women who carved out the pathways I now walk, and I am hopeful for a future that my daughter and the generations to come will craft and care for.”

Constance Peterson Miller (Director)

“Whenever I feel discouraged in work or school, I remember that we are in the field of HigHER Education. Women around the world belong in academia, and their contributions make a difference.”

Kathryn Noelle Mathews (Assistant Director)

Titan Success Center

“One of my favorite quotes about women supporting women is, ‘A strong woman looks a challenge in the eye and gives it a wink’ – Dolly Parton. Our team is strong because we challenge each other to be better at what we do every day. We have each other’s backs, celebrate each other’s successes, and we are genuinely curious about each other’s lives outside of the office. We love helping students overcome challenges, and this common passion connects us deeply. I enjoy watching folks on my team learn and grow, become confident in their work and abilities and move on to higher level positions when they’re ready. It’s a point of pride that we’ve had four former Success Coaches move on to from coaching to directorships so far, and there are sure to be more in the future”.

Erin Brown (Director)

“We must celebrate the voices and stories of women in the workplace and those women in our life. Understanding and embracing diversity is learning about the different walks of life that women come from and creating spaces to enrich, build and sustain community.”

Cush Cuthbertson (21st Century Scholar Success Specialist)

“Here is one of my favorite quotes empowering women: ‘Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping-stone to greatness.’ –Oprah Winfrey”

Jessycka French (Student Support Specialist)

“This is my favorite quote: ‘Being a woman is an unknown adversity to those unlike us. In life we have to hustle harder, dream bigger and work more persistently to have a place in this world and the workplace.’”

Brenna Giazzon (Transfer Student Specialist)
