This semester, IU South Bend has started Food Truck Fridays. The idea was originally presented by the Student Government Association to the administration in discussions about improving food choices on campus. It is also a great way to get together with friends on a Friday.

The first Food Truck Friday event was on Jan. 20 with Junbuggies, a local taco truck. The second was Rulli’s, a pizza truck, on Feb. 3. Both were parked in the east lot by Greenlawn, between the Student Activities Center and Northside, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both trucks have been very successful with students and staff.

The goal is to bring in different businesses and repeat popular vendors. As of right now, it is a recurring event, although it may not be every week depending on who can cater on certain dates. There is expected to be more consistency as the weather gets warmer.

Andy Williams, the vice chancellor for administration and finance who has had an integral role in Food Truck Fridays, said “There’s nothing like food to bring us together. It’s a nice way to continue building community.”
