Hello friends, and welcome back to my last coffee shop visit of the semester! I decided to save my favorite place for last. A Roaster Called Revenant, one of the newest local coffee spots, is located inside Dainty Maid Food Hall which is a unique spot featuring multiple other vendors that serve breakfast, beverages, sweets and more.

Dainty Maid is located at 231 S Michigan Street in the heart of downtown South Bend. The inside of the food hall has a unique setup where you use your phone to order from your numbered table with a QR code. After ordering, your food or drinks are brought to you. This system makes it extremely easy and efficient to order from multiple places.

A Roaster Called Revenant is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.. I prefer to go earlier in the week when it is easier to get a table if I am looking to work or study. The weekends tend to be very busy since all of the other businesses are open as well.

Getting into the coffee aspect, Revenant has far more creative coffee drinks in comparison to the average coffee shop. Each drink is a carefully curated creation with lots of passion and planning put into it.

When interviewing the owner, Tyler Sutch, about creating the drink menu he said, “We build drinks the same way you would cocktails. Our seasonal and house drinks are unique expressions of coffee used as a strong flavored ingredient.”

There is a house drink menu with year-round drinks as well as six seasonal drinks at any given time. The house menu includes drinks such as The Spronic,Chai Hard with a Vengeance, Efflorescent and Iced  Cortadito. In addition to house specialty drinks, Revenant also offers regular drip coffee, cold brew, teas and other espresso drinks.

This upcoming weekend the winter seasonal drinks are being released. I have a couple I am most excited to try such as the two lattes based off of Heat Miser and Snow Miser from the film The Year Without a Santa Claus. I am also excited to try the nitro cold brew with gingerbread sweet cream and Revenant’s take on a toasted marshmallow latte. The previous seasonal drinks have been incredible, and I look forward to trying the new ones as soon as they come out.

This is always my go-to place when people ask me about the best spot in the area. The originality and aesthetics go far beyond the average cup of coffee and I hope to see more familiar faces at Dainty Maid Food Hall over the upcoming weeks.

Have a wonderful winter break, and I’ll be back next semester with more to come!
