Meet the Staff: Benjamin Ward

Hi. I’m Benjamin, a junior here at IU South Bend. I am a communication studies major with a focus on journalism and a minor in music. You will often see me running across campus as I attempt to arrive fashionably late to my class. Though I am often running a few minutes behind, I am so passionate about feeding my curiosity with education.

Outside of campus I run small renovation projects for commercial spaces. My secret goal, however, is to work for Trader Joe’s eventually… don’t tell my boss. Serving my community and connecting with people in a variety of ways is something that I value.

Consequently, you will often find me at my church, Transformation Ministries, walking around the farmers market or talking to friends at a local coffee shop. And, if I am not out and about, I am most likely writing music at home. Creating songs and poetry is a must for me to stay semi-sane.

Most importantly, the thing that will help you know me best is my wife. I love spending time with her and learning from her unique perspective of the world. Thoughts with her often motivate my writing and interest in current events.

My motivation in writing with The Preface is to expand my skills. I want to stretch my abilities and push myself to always be doing more and better. I tend to have strong ideals in my head, so balancing my bias with conversations about things that I know little about is so important to me.

Whether my writing career will be long or short, I will always attempt to communicate thoughtfully with my words. I do not want to skim the surface, but I also do not strive to simply deliver bad news. My goal is for everyone to feel loved and informed. Hopefully you will see that trend in my writing!
