Hello! My name is Candice Slovinski! I am a future English teacher with a penchant for referencing life as being a series of chapters meant to tell a tale for ages.
Others believe me to be coffee-dependent, but I will always settle for pastries. I am a senior in my final year at IU South Bend as a Secondary Education English major. A fun fact about me is I am a late-in-life college student. I am a mom of two beautiful little girls, married to my high school sweetheart of 16 years with a very energetic pup named Rocky.
I am constantly making references to my fandoms and love to play games (both board and video) while eating far too many snacks. My family is my number one priority and is my driving force to keep putting one foot in front of the other every day.
If you had asked me 14 years ago what I wanted to be when I got out of high school my answer would have been, “Done with school!” It took different jobs to see my dream career and different experiences in life to know what I wanted, and did not want, to be a part of my story. Today I want to be a teacher, but not just any teacher – a high school English teacher!
My experiences in the IU South Bend School of Education have been an excellent adventure! I work part-time at my youngest daughter’s daycare while I am also a full-time student. I am always excited to get a peek into her world when not with me.
Joining the Preface has given me the ability to see others enjoy the written word as much as I do, and even better – they are my words!
Through this opportunity, I hope to leave a mark on IU South Bend and even bring a little happiness into the days of my fellow students. Join me in a journey through paper and ink as we explore the magic that resides in the written word.
