The Dorothy J. Wiekamp Educational Resource Center (WERC) is a facility on campus that students can use for a variety of projects. The WERC is located on the second floor of the Education & Arts Building in room 2010. The hours of operation are Mon-Thurs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m , Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m..

There is a large makerspace in the back of the WERC, as well as a computer area and a library area stocked with PreK-12 reading material. In the makerspace there are large work tables and a plethora of equipment suitable for just about any creative pursuit. Here, students can utilize the Cricut cutting machine, button maker, heat press, scanner, 3D printer, and much more.

Students can submit documents to posters@iusb.edu if they would like to have professional quality prints done. The prints can be sized up to 44 inches and printed on heavyweight matte paper, premium photo paper, or synthetic vinyl. There is about a three day turnaround for wide format printing, but the staff at the WERC work very hard to accommodate all of the classes and individual students who utilize this service.

The library within the WERC has a large catalog that would pique the interest of educators, counselors, and those working closely with young people. Their catalog includes a range of curriculum, teaching aids, and children’s literature. Both students and non-IU members of the community can borrow books as long as they apply for an IU library card.

Students should take advantage of this facility. It is highly accessible as it is on campus, and more convenient and inexpensive than third party companies. In addition to all of the potential of the tools within the makerspace of the WERC, it is also a quiet space conducive for studying and working on projects.

While it is free to use resources, students must pay for any of the materials they need from the WERC. The WERC accepts payments in the form of cash or check. Specific information regarding the pricing of materials and services can be found by visiting https://library.iusb.edu/werc or going there directly. Any further questions about the capability of these resources can be directed to the supervisor, Ryan Weber, at ryweber@iusb.edu
