With the semester beginning recently, housing is making sure to bring all sorts of events for residents to enjoy.
Every month a pair of RA’s plan events for residents to enjoy. In January, RA’s Benson Jangala and Reggie Williams decided to host a virtual bingo night for residents. Benson was involved with the previous bingo night hosted in September with RA Shamiso Chigadza.
This round the events were hosted online due to the recent increase in Covid-19 cases. Leading up to Jan. 29 residents could pick up bingo kits from the front desk of the community building. These kits included two bingo cards and a bag of popcorn.
Residents were able to enter the Zoom room via email that all resident assistants sent out to their designated buildings. The Zoom event began at 8 p.m.
Reggie was calling out numbers for residents to cross off their list, and Benson was in charge of the music playing in the background. Regularly throughout the event you could hear Benson reminding viewers to “have their popcorn”. It became an inside joke during the night.
When a bingo was reached, the resident would have to put bingo in the chat followed by their name and favorite color. Afterwards they would hold their card up to the screen while Benson and Reggie would check the numbers. Once the number was checked, the resident was able to come down to the RA office in the Community Building and pick up a goodie bag filled with household goods.
Some of the items in the bags were: cleaners, laundry cleaners, home decor items and food storage items.
There were three rounds of bingo, awarding three players with prizes for use in their apartments.
