IU South Bend is preparing for the return of the annual Student Exhibition, which will take place Feb. 7 through March 11 in the campus Art Gallery.

The exhibition gives all IU South Bend students a chance to display their creative work to other students and the public. This is the ninth annual student art exhibition that has been put on in the current gallery.

“As long as there has been a School of the Arts, founded in the 1960’s, there has been an exhibition for student work,” said Susan Moore, Professor and Chair of the Fine Arts Department.

Students considering entering work should discuss with an art professor in the subject whether it is suitable for submission. Try to choose a piece that best represents your skills, interests, and feelings.

One work per student can be submitted with the proper form Jan. 24 through Jan. 28 from 12pm to 5pm in the art gallery located in the Education and Arts building. The gallery is also offering frames and glass that can be borrowed for use during the Student Art Show, just fill out the size of frame needed on the form.

“Showing your work in the gallery is a great experience and a fun way to meet your peers. All students can exhibit in the student show, even students who only took one class and may not have an art major or minor,” said Moore. If you need help finding a form, ask a professor or contact the Gallery Director.

Please take the time to see if you have work you would like to submit. If you don’t, then join other students in supporting their artistic interests. There is going to be great work on display, so celebrate the artists whose work you see and leave feeling inspired!
