The IU South Bend men’s basketball team recently began their 2021-2022 season with a current record of 2-1 (as of Nov. 6). Before the start of the season, the team was ranked number one in the preseason coaches poll, followed by Olivet Nazarene and Saint Xavier.
Following that poll, the Titans were then ranked number 25 in the NAIA Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll for the first time ever.
“We felt grateful [when they received their rankings], because we felt like it should’ve happened before but we know we got to keep working and it’s only the beginning,” senior Dylan Allen said.
The Titans are back-to-back CCAC tournament champions, and are looking to add their third consecutive win to their lineup.
“I want to be the CCAC regular season champs and win the CCAC tournament, and then the overall goal or expectation is to win the national championship,” senior Spencer Pettit said.
This is the first time in program history that the team has been ranked in both polls, and they were ranked 25th out of 25 in the Preseason Poll.
“My expectations for this season are to get another conference championship for sure, but making a run at nationals this year. We’re preparing for that by going hard in practice, and just making sure we’re ready for everything,” Allen said.
“We know everyone has a target on our back, so we have to prepare metally and physically for every game like it’s a championship game,” Pettit said.
