The IU South Bend baseball team collected a series sweep against Trinity Christian. They came up on top all three games and collected a new record of 22 runs in one game and a new record of 23 hits in one game.
The first game against the Trolls the boys beat them 22-2 including senior TJ DeHererra’s 10th home run of the season. The winning pitcher of the game was sophomore Zack Dobos who pitched the entire eight innings.
The second game of the series, the Titans came up with the 14-7 victory. They collected 13 hits compared to the Trolls eight and both teams only had two errors. The winning pitcher was sophomore Robbie Berger moving to 4-3 so far this season.
In the final game, the Titans fought to stay alive and on top most of the game. They came out hot in the fourth inning to make the score 4-0 but let the Trolls collect three runs to make the score 4-3. The Titans held their lead up until the top of the ninth when Trinity Christian scored two runs, taking the lead and making it 4-5.
The Titans worked together to come with the walk off win in the bottom of the ninth. The team had two runners on with one out and junior Colin Mack reached base on a fielder’s choice which resulted in junior Connor Wise scoring, and then pinch runner, junior Nick Banks scoring the game winning run and collecting the series sweep.
The team used a total of four pitchers to carry out the final win starting with junior Bryson Taylor who pitched a little over five innings, then followed by senior Brooks Dehn who pitched a full inning, the junior Nolan Lorenz who also added an inning, and then concluded by junior Logan Young who collected his first win of the season.
The Titans look to play Trinity International on Tuesday April, 20 with the hopes of picking up more conference wins on the way. The team is currently 16-18 overall and 12-7 in conference.
