In the Titan’s first conference game, they faced Judson and split with them for the day. This brings the team’s conference record to 1-1.
Game one was led by senior Becca Stevens on the mound who matched her career high of seven strikeouts. The strikeouts were not enough as the Titans fell behind in early innings and worked their way back up throughout extra innings holding a score of 5-5 until Judson came out with the 11-6 lead after eight innings.
The Titans worked to rally hits together while runners were in scoring positions but couldn’t push them across when needed. Freshman Olivia Zarantonello and junior Emily Anglin both had doubles on the day, while junior Savanna Schmitz had a triple, and junior Mackenzie Myars had her sixth homerun of the season. Senior Kat Bessler, junior Shelby Baker, Schmitz, Zarantonello and Myars all added an RBI.
In game, two senior Aly Brickel allowed only five hits and had two strikeouts, while the defense had her back behind her leaving seven of Judson’s runs stranded on base.
The team worked early in the second inning reaching a score of 2-0 after a single by Baker. Junior Brittany Vanderbrink and Baker then scored off a hit from freshman Courtney Welborn. In the fourth inning, the team had bases loaded and off a single by senior Haylie Williamson. Zarantonello was able to score bringing the score to 3-0.
Both Vanderbrink and Schmitz collected a double that second game of the day, and Baker, Welborn, and Williamson all had RBIs which resulted in the 3-0 win against Judson.
The Titans are looking to further their now conference win streak against Saint Xavier on April 7. Any questions regarding the upcoming season or other information on Titan sports are available online at https://iusbtitans.com/.
