Titans Feeding Titans hosted their first spring distribution event on Friday, March 19.

IU South Bend students, staff and faculty were able to pick up a bag of food outside of the Fine Arts and EA building between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Multiple tables were set up along the sidewalk for easy access and to allow for social distancing.

According to the Titan Success Center’s Twitter account, Titans Feeding Titans prepared 50 bags of food including proteins, pantry items, and ten vegetarian bags. Several food items, including pasta, peanut butter, pasta sauce, boxed macaroni and cheese, bread, cake mix, canned soup and frozen meats were included in the bags.

While small events have been held in the past, this is the first time a spring distribution event has been held by the campus food pantry.

“In past years we have done pop-up pantries at housing. Due to COVID, we are not doing those this semester,” Anne Drake, director of Disability Support Services, said.

To receive food, students, staff and faculty were required to bring their IU South Bend ID. No further requirements were needed, as the intent of the event was to spread the word about the campus food pantry and provide food for those who may need it.

“We are also hoping that this helps break down any stigma of using the food pantry and gets more people using this great campus resource,” Drake said.

According to Drake, Titans Feeding Titans hopes to host one more event this semester. However, they are hoping to provide cleaning products and personal hygiene items, such as toothpaste, soap, feminine products and shampoo for IU South Bend students, staff and faculty who may need them.

Students interested in visiting the pantry during its regular hours can contact the Facebook page, Titans Feeding Titans, for open hours. Students can also message the Facebook page with any questions.
