Have you been interested in becoming a residential assistant? IU South Bend is looking for eight Resident Assistants and a senior resident for the 2021-2022 school year.
IU South Bend is seeking motivated, responsible leaders to fulfill the needs of residential campus housing.
“Individuals who want to learn and expand their own education also will be successful in the position. The success of the position is very different for each RA as each RA tends to be looking for different qualities to take from the position,” Jacob Zell, resident coordinator, said.
Residential assistants have several responsibilities. They help students make the transition to campus living. They assist them with any questions or problems they may be having. They help with the process of creative ideas and decorating buildings. They help resolve any possible conflicts and ensure students get the best experience.
“RAs help to ensure that residents have a safe and enjoyable residential experience while at college. The RAs work to create programming to help further residents’ education on various topics such as diversity, inclusion, mental health and wellness, etc. The RAs also help to build a sense of community in campus housing by helping residents connect with one another and being a mentor, friend and role model for other housing residents,” Zell said.
There are certain conditions that need to be met in order to be a candidate for this position. “RAs must be in good academic and judicial standing and remain in good standing throughout the position. RAs must maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA throughout their time as an RA,” Zell said.
Residential Assistants must be at least 18 years old and have 30 credit hours previously completed.
RAs are expected to share a two-bedroom residence with another residential assistant. Each bedroom contains an attached bathroom.
