To help bring awareness to domestic and dating Violence, IU South Bend is bringing students webinars throughout the month to educate students on domestic violence.
The Office of Institutional Equity and Inclusive Excellence will be hosting a webinar on safety planning and signs of domestic violence on October 26. This event is co-hosted with the Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) Advocate of the Family Justice Center of St. Joseph County.
The webinar will be presented by Amelia Thomas, SOS and SART coordinator at the Family Justice Center. The event will give information on what to look for in both domestic and dating violence situations. It will also give advice on how to help those in trouble and safety planning.
Anyone interested in attending the webinar must be IU South Bend affiliated and register in advance through the Titan Atlas website.
This webinar will not be recorded to protect survivors and participants of the event. Titan Atlas said, “This program … may contain information and scenarios that are triggering for victims of sexual violence.”
This is not the only event this Office of Institutional Equity and Inclusive Excellence offered and is offering throughout the upcoming months.
The Hook Up was hosted on Oct. 15. This video spoke about language, culture and society has shaped views on dating, relationships and sex. On Titan Atlas, students can access this video until Oct. 22.
Beat the Blame Game was hosted on Oct. 19. It was an interactive game that helped bring dialogue to victim blaming by actively involving participants.
In the near future, the office will be hosting BRAVE training on Nov. 5, and Let’s Talk: Being an Ally to Survivors, on Nov. 19 to help raise continued awareness for domestic violence around the IU South Bend campus.
While October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, it is equally important to stay aware and educated throughout the year.
