Since COVID-19 has taken the world by storm, there have been many new changes implemented into student housing. Housing residents now are learning all new rules and disregarding what they have been used to in the past.

Students are not allowed any off-campus guests in your apartment at any time, they are to stay in their car and wait for you. Students are only permitted to have guests from other buildings in campus housing come over to your apartment, and students are only allowed two at a time in a four bedroom or one at a time in a two bedroom.

Students are allowed to visit other residents of housing, however they have to let one another in the main door. Housing has also recently made it to where the key cards only scan to the building a student is living in.

They also implemented rules for the community building. Students are only allowed one person in the computer lab at a time, and also must book the room by appointment or by calling the RA on duty. There are also only two people allowed in the laundry room at any given time.

“It’s such a major difference, you almost forget some of the new regulations because you are so used to what it has been in the past. I’ve had to double check the rules sometimes to make sure I am even allowed to do certain things. It is really stressful at times, but it’s worth it because they are doing their absolute best to keep us all safe,” junior, Haylie Williamson, said.

One change that students are viewing as a positive change is that the acceptance of letting emotional support animals reside on campus has been easier to obtain. In previous years, students had to go through a lot of different paperwork and acceptances of these animals.

“Compared to my freshman and sophomore year, I have already seen so many pets on campus. It’s really nice to see all the animals here, it gives you a different sense of comfort and relief,” junior, Brittney Johnstone said.

While housing may look different this year, safety is the priority.
