Thursday, Day One: Bus Ride
The 13-hour bus ride to Texarkana, Texas was surprisingly very enjoyable. We stopped a couple of times to get food and take bathroom breaks, which were much needed. While we were on the bus, we played a game called, “Mafia,” which took up about five hours. This game got very intense and everyone who was playing had a great time. We ended up arriving at the hotel at 9 p.m. and most of us went to bed right away to get ready for our big game on Friday.
Friday, Day Two: Game One WIN 2-1
In the first game our Ace, Robbie Berger, threw another whale of a performance. He threw six complete innings and only giving up one run. He was dominant the whole game. Our first baseman, Logan Young stepped up big with two hits and a key RBI in the seventh inning to give us the lead. Matthew Miller then knocked Young in with a double and that was all she wrote. Logan Young came in to pitch in the bottom of the seventh and shut the door. The team was super hyped that we scored that late in the game, and we were ready to move on to game two.
Friday, Day Two: Game Two WIN 9-2
In the second game, our bats were hot, and we had a combined number of 10 hits as a team. The dugout was fired up and everybody was having a great time. Logan Smith had a huge game, with the first two doubles of his career. Also, Vance Gutierrez came up big with two doubles. This game was very exciting due to the fact that we were crushing the ball and scoring pretty much every inning. After these two games, we went to Chipotle and had a nice meal. When we got back to the hotel, most of my teammates went to the mall that was very close to our hotel.
Saturday, Day Three: Game Three WIN 10-2
We must have had a great breakfast at the hotel (which included sausage, eggs, biscuits, and gravy, etc.) because our bats came out on fire! Everyone in the starting lineup obtained at least one hit with Jordan Moore leading the team with three hits and two doubles. Troy Cullen pitched a complete-game gem, only giving up two runs.
Saturday, Day Three: Game Four LOSS 5-4
This was a game that hurt deeply. After winning three games in a row, we came out very strong and obtained a 4-0 lead early in the game. Those were the only runs we could get across for the rest of the game. Texarkana A&M had a great sixth and seventh inning and ended up beating us on a walk-off double.
Saturday to Sunday, Day Four: Bus ride home
The bus ride back to South Bend was very quiet at first due to the fact that we should have swept our opponent. But we were still very happy with the fact that we won three out of the four games we played. We ended up watching a boxing match on the bus, which was very cool and unique. Most of my teammates slept most of the time and the 13-hour trip home flew by! All in all, the weekend was very fun and we won three games, which we will always be happy with.
