Hello everyone. My name is John Griffee and I am a new intern with the Preface this semester. I am a Junior studying Communication Studies with a focus on Media Study, my minor being in Creative Writing.

I’m a huge nature person, and I originally started college wanting to study Wildlife Science but ended up in Communication Studies instead. Before college, I spent some time running nature programs for kids at a local park and fell in love with animals.

Even with the hustle and bustle of college life, I still try to find time to hike the trails around where I live. While photography was never a major passion of mine, I have hundreds of photos from my hikes and adventures!

When I am not on campus or out somewhere, music is something that is a constant in my daily routine. Indie music is one of my passions, my favorite artists being Mac DeMarco, Peach Pit and King Krule. Other than indie music, I am also a big fan of oldies: Zeppelin, The Stones, Elton John, etc.

After college, my aim is to end up coordinating social media or community outreach for a company or organization. Regardless of where I end up working, I want to have the ability to cheer up others through my work.

Growing up in South Bend, I’m used to the horrendous winter months, and winter has become my favorite season. I ran cross country and track at nearby Riley High School; I am no stranger to running through the sleet around our area.

Sports are a major part of my life. I’ve been a massive Fighting Irish hockey fan nearly my entire life, with this year being my eighteenth going to games. While I don’t run anymore, I still keep up with hiking and cycling.

While I take awhile to warm up to people, I have plenty of stories from my misadventures that I am always happy to share. I look forward to meeting more of my peers here at IU South Bend while writing for the Preface. See you around campus!
