On January 27, the IU South Bend BRAVE program hosted a training event, hosted by Laura Harlow, Director of Institutional Equity and Inclusive Excellence.
BRAVE stands for Bringing Awareness, Recovery, Awareness, Voices, and Engagement.
This training consisted of Harlow discussing campus safety in terms of sexual misconduct, forms of consent, and various ways of intervening as bystanders and limiting the events that result in sexual misconduct on and off campus.
“The BRAVE program can help students get involved in preventing sexual misconduct and stepping up when you see a potentially harmful situation, and find policies and support resources for you or someone in need” explained Harlow.
Awareness activities such as knowing the influence of alcohol, alcoholic beverage percentages, and “a clear, sober, ongoing ‘yes’ to sexual consent” were included in this training session.
In final remarks when concluding this event, Harlow stated that, “Indiana University is committed to preventing and responding promptly to all forms of sexual misconduct, including sexual harassment, sexual assault and all forms of sexual violence, stalking, sexual exploitation, and dating and domestic violence.
