The IU South Bend American Democracy Program (ADP) celebrated National Constitution Day with a week of activities for all students and faculty to engage in.
The organization started off the week with a ‘free speech vs. hate speech’ luncheon discussion that took place on Tuesday, September 17th. There was a booth set-up on campus where members of the IU South Bend community could register to vote and receive a copy of the Constitution.
On Thursday, September 19th, the group orchestrated a luncheon to discuss guns on campus to spread awareness and facilitate discussion over the second amendment.
To finish up the week, they hosted a movie night on Friday, September 20.
Constitution Day is honored each year on September 17 to commemorate the signing of the Constitution on September 17, 1787, and all recognized American citizens. In 1952, Congress passed the law to remember “the formation and signing” of the document. This law encouraged civil and educational organizations of states, counties, cities, and towns to make plans to properly observe this day.
The IU South Bend ADP takes pride in formally recognizing all political issues and events.
