Reflecting on my time at IU South Bend

As I sit here, I begin to reflect on what my last four years at IU South Bend have meant to me. I begin by thinking back to my freshman through junior year, during which time I was the student manager of the IU South Bend men’s baseball team, and all of the great memories that this experience has brought me, as well as some of my best friends I have made throughout my college career. Although I am no longer the IU South Bend men’s baseball team student manager, those memories are some of my best memories from my college career here at IU South Bend.

When I first chose to attend IU South Bend, I spent the majority of my freshman and sophomore years as an undeclared major, until in my junior year, I chose to get my major in mass communications, with a concentration in journalism and that has not changed since then. Looking back at this now, it has proven to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have really enjoyed my time here at IU South Bend as a Mass Communication degree with a concentration in Journalism, and I will miss working for The Preface, which I only began working for during the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters, both semesters being in my senior year at IU South Bend.

I honestly have very little idea of what I want to do in my future after graduating from IU South Bend in about a month, but I would love to find a job in journalism as a sports writer, especially in the sports of either baseball or softball, as those have been either my favorite sport since I was a kid, or, in the case of softball, one of my favorite sports to write about with The Preface here at IU South Bend.

In the future, I can see myself living in a large, metropolitan city, especially Chicago, Illinois or Minneapolis, Minnesota, as those two cities have my two favorite Major League Baseball teams in them: The Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins.

As I come to the conclusion of my final article here at The Preface, I want to pass on some advice and one of my all-time favorite quotes that has summed up my time here at the IU South Bend’s The Preface: “If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life,” said Marc Anthony.

I sincerely appreciate the many opportunities to hone my skills as a journalist that The Preface at IU South Bend has provided me over the last year, and I want to encourage anyone who enjoys writing to sign up for working at The Preface, as it has truly been an experience I will miss not soon forget. I also want to say thank you to everyone on The Preface’s staff who has encouraged me to get involved writing for the school newspaper, and to all of the people on the campus of IU South Bend for reading my many stories over the last year.
