The Titans baseball team improved their winning streak to four in a row after beating the Trinity Christian College Trolls due to a big third inning. The Titans scored four in the third, helping them win the game 9-5. The win comes in the aftermath of two players being shot at a party just days before.
“This is tremendous to see this out of our guys after having a rough start to the year. We knew we had the potential, it’s just nice to finally start seeing some of that come out during conference play. Tyler Reece has an excellent outing for us. Gave us a chance to win and that’s what we ask out of our starting pitchers, and our bats continued to be great,” said assistant coach Zack Lazenby.
The Titans out struck the Trolls 14 hits to 6 with both teams making three errors.
Things opened up in third with the first two innings being scoreless. At the top of the third the Titans scored four runs with three being RBI’s and one on a passed ball, the Titans had five hits in the inning. The Trolls responded with three in the bottom of the third.
Things kept on rolling for the Titans with an RBI scored from Walls in the fourth and an RBI scored from Deherrera in the fifth.
The Trolls tried making a comeback down 6-3 scoring one in the seventh and eighth. However, the Titans shut that comeback down scoring two from an error by the Trolls.
In the bottom of the ninth with the game on the line, down four, the Trolls couldn’t muster anything up going hitless, losing the game.
“We talk about winning each inning and when you continue to win innings it sets us up for continued success,” said Lazenby.
Walls had an impressive day with two runs, three hits and an RBI. Reece received the win from the mound.
