For students who are interested in learning more about Hispanic culture and speaking Spanish, Spanish Club will still have fiestas through the end of the semester, and has big plans for the next academic year.
“Although most of our current members are Spanish minors and majors, the club is open to anyone who wants to attend events or hang out with us. We have some events that we encourage people to speak Spanish, but we don’t require that people speak Spanish,” said Benjamin Eich, Spanish Club president.
The club has hosted a variety of events to highlight aspects of Hispanic culture and to get students involved. These events have included fiestas with games, candy, prizes, food and conversation.
Next year, they are planning on exploring new leadership in the club, and are already working out details for social, academic and entertainment events. Eich described that he would like attendance to be greater and would like to create more opportunities for people to get involved next year.
However, this does not mean they are finished with activities for this semester. Though the date is unknown at this time, the Spanish club has their final fiesta in the works for the week before finals.
“We are planning to have a fajita bar, chips and guac, as well as other snacks, and of course some games that everyone can play. It’s mostly a big send off that will give people a chance to relax right before finals. It will also host our elections for the upcoming year, applications are open on titan atlas and are due April 16,” said Eich.
The date, location, and time will become available on Titan Atlas, or for more information on Spanish Club in general, students may contact President Benjamin Eich at beich@imail.iu.edu, Treasurer Hannah Bachota at hbachota@iu.edu, or Secretary Bri Carmichael at bricarm@iu.edu.
