Sean Haas is one of the more recent names to be added to the list of candidates for mayor of South Bend. Haas is an IU South Bend graduate. He graduated from IU South Bend in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in education.
“I’ve been serving my country or community since 2000. Recent years I have seen the area I live fall victim to many shootings and murders, so improving public safety is number one. As a lifelong resident, and someone who taught in the school system, I feel I have great perspective on the issues facing the city,” said Haas, in response to the reasons he is running for mayor.
Haas is currently the first and only Republican candidate running for mayor of South Bend. “Democrats have run this town since the early 70s. It’s time for a new voice,” Haas said.
Currently, Haas is a teacher at LaVille junior/senior high school, where he teaches geography, world history and advanced placement (AP) world history.
Additionally, Hass is a veteran, serving in the United States Army from 2000 until 2004.
