Beginning Nov. 21 the elevators in Northside were temporarily shut down for a makeover. Facilities is updating the main elevators in Northside Hall near the bookstore this month beginning with the large elevator, which will be out of order for up to eight weeks. It will be followed by the makeover of the smaller elevator for a shorter period of time.

While many students voice their distrust of the campus elevators, Assistant Director of Facilities Management, James Mason, states that proper protocol is taken.

“All the campus elevators receive a monthly preventive maintenance inspection, as well as an annual inspection by the state,” said Mason.

In the past year alone, there have been incidents regarding the elevators. In March, the Northside elevators were having sporadic operation issues, as well as the library elevators after heavy rainfalls.

“The Northside elevators are at the end of their lifecycle and are ready for an upgrade. They are still providing dependable service, but are requiring more repair maintenance, so we are glad to have this project underway,” elaborated Mason.

While the upgrade is underway, facilities advised adjusting schedules accordingly and apologized for any inconveniences the modernization process may pose for students. For more updates, check The Daily Titan.
