Keep rolling, Lime Scooters appear on campus

Lime Scooters rolled into the area, and onto campus, late last week. The scooters provide a quick and easy transportation over short distances. They have a hand brake on the left handlebar, and a toggle for accelerating on the right handlebar. After unlocking the scooters, a couple of kicks to get rolling are all that is needed to get moving and use the acceleration to maintain and increase speed.

According to a release from Ken Baierl, director of communications and marketing for IU South Bend, on the Daily Titan, “Lime will provide deployment stations on campus and will collect the scooters on a daily basis, charging them overnight and redistributing them the next day so they are fully charged.”

The scooters have a different cost rate than the Lime Bikes. The Scooters can be unlocked through the LimeBike app for $1, and are an additional 15 cents per minute of use.

“Lime scooters can be ridden on streets, in bike lanes, and on bike paths. Scooters cannot be ridden on sidewalks, including on the perimeter of campus and through the quad,” the release states. “Helmets should always be worn.”

The release also states that they should “not obstruct any sidewalk, street, path or other routes of pedestrian or vehicular traffic.”

Scooter and deployment stations will come to the campus in the future.
