The IU South Bend Women’s Basketball team traveled to IU Kokomo, in Kokomo, Indiana, on Wednesday, Oct. 31, for a non-conference matchup. Despite a halftime lead by the IU South Bend Titans, they would ultimately fall to the IU Kokomo Cougars by a final score of 59-75. After winning their season opener, the Titans overall win-loss record now stands at 1-2.
Despite the losing effort as a team, the Titans had multiple quality individual performances in the game against IU Kokomo.
One of the notable performances was by sophomore Taitlyn Trenshaw, who put together a strong performance in the first double-double of the season. Trenshaw would finish with a team leading 14 points and 10 rebounds. Other notable performances by the Titans included four different players who finished with double-digit point totals for the game. These four players included junior Kyleigh Kubik, with 14 points, sophomore Kylie Fehrman, with 11 points, and junior Taylor Wesley, with 10 points for the game.
The Titans would fall behind IU Kokomo early in the first quarter, before storming back to take an 18-14 lead heading into action in the second quarter. The second quarter saw many unsuccessful scoring attempts for both teams, as each team would only score 10 points over the 10-minute long second quarter. However, the Titans would maintain their lead from the first quarter, heading into the locker room at halftime ahead by a mere four points with the score of 28-24 at halftime.
Upon returning from the locker room at the conclusion of halftime, the Titans would maintain their lead over the Cougars for a short period of time, during which time they pulled ahead by five points, courtesy of a successful scoring opportunity by Taylor Wesley, with 6:05 left in the third quarter. However, the command of the game held by the Titans would not last long, as IU Kokomo would ultimately take over the lead for good on a basket with 5:12 left in the third quarter.
Going into the final quarter of play, IU South Bend would trail IU Kokomo by a score of 46-50. However, the Titans would pull within one point, courtesy of Wesley, successfully scoring with 9:43 remaining in the game. Unfortunately for the Titans, this was as close as they would come to the lead of IU Kokomo during the remainder of the game, as the Cougars of IU Kokomo would score 25 points during the remainder of the fourth quarter of play.
