The IU South Bend Women’s Volleyball team traveled to Whiting, Ind. on Thursday, Oct. 18, to take on the Calumet College of St. Joseph (CCSJ) Women’s Volleyball team at the Rittenmeyer Center.
The IU South Bend Titans made quick work of the three matches, winning all three by final scores of 25-16, 25-20, and 25-13. The Titans improves its record to 9-17 overall, and 6-6 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC). Calumet College of St. Joseph dropped to 4-19 overall, and 0–11 in the CACC.
“Last night’s game was a great team effort. We had a great competitive mentality to win and the team really came out with fire and intensity. Every player did their job very well and it showed,” said Jamie Ashmore, head coach of the Titan’s volleyball team.
“The team’s main strength is our versatility. Every player on the team can play multiple positions, so when we need to make changes or adjustments, we don’t miss a beat. We’ve had many situations this season where players need to step in to different roles, and each player has done it very well,” added Ashmore.
Robbie Berg, a junior Titan, finished with eleven kills. McKenzie Powell, a freshman Titan, had 38 assists to go along with four kills and seven digs. Samantha Hockstra, a junior Titan, led the defense with 16 digs. Madison Burger, a junior Titan, added 12 digs.
After the IU South Bend Women’s Volleyball team takes on Lourdes University on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 3:00 p.m., they will compete in the two-day CCAC Crossover Tournament, at St. Xavier University, in Chicago, Ill., where they will compete against St. Ambrose University, Robert Morris University Illinois, Saint Xavier University and Judson University, starting on Friday, Oct. 26.
The IU South Bend Titans Women’s Volleyball team will conclude their season on Tuesday, Oct. 30, when they face the Governors State University Women’s Volleyball team at home at in the Student Activity Center at 7:00 p.m.
