Hey everyone! My name is Megan Hayes, and I am a sophomore here at IU South Bend. This is my second year as a staff writer for The Preface. I am majoring in Health Communications, with a Gender Studies minor. The medical field is my passion, and I hope that one day I will be able to make a lasting impression in the field.

Aside from writing for The Preface, I work as a Certified Nursing Assistant. I truly enjoy my job, and I love working with the elderly. I love being able to improve the quality of their lives every single day and give their lives a second meaning.

I am an absolute boss at bingo, and the ladies and I at the nursing home love to go to the bingo hall and win all the prizes. I always form a special bond with the residents due to my younger age, as I am usually the age of their grandkids or great grandkids. They love to ask me how college is going and deeply care about me as a person, which is a reward all by itself. I teach them all about technology and teach them all the new lingo that we use.

I am also a huge adventure seeker. I absolutely love to travel, and this is something that I hope to do my entire life. The summer of my senior year of high school, I had the awesome opportunity to travel overseas with my best friend. I went to France, Italy, and the Vatican City. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I got to go up into the Eiffel Tower, down into the Catacombs and the Coliseum in Rome. However, my favorite thing was the food hands down. Having true, authentic Italian pasta was a dream come true.

My best friend and I are also planning a trip to Ireland for spring break. I have always wanted to go to Ireland and see the castles. I am also an Irish girl at heart, so it will be nice to travel to the country my family is from.

Now, I will tell you all some interesting facts about myself. I am left handed, and nobody could ever change that about me. I can barely use my right hand for anything, no matter how hard I have tried to be able to use it. I was born on Christmas Day back in 1998, and my brother was born on Thanksgiving in 2000. My mother can never catch a break on holidays.

I won the spelling bee when I was in fourth grade even though I am a horrible speller, and I do not let anybody forget it. I have two beautiful fish babies, they are both bettas. I have a male named Ottis, and a female named Eevee. My favorite animal is a giraffe. They are now on the endangered list which makes me terribly sad. I love half cut sweet teas from Micky D’s if you ever want to be my friend, just buy me one.

My goal as a staff writer is to inform all the faculty and staff with the latest news and information that is relevant. I think it is extremely important to provide news that matters to those who read the paper, and to provide all the information in a factual and ethical way. I would like to be someone who helps to make that happen.
