The Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts Lecture Series kicks off on Sept. 26 featuring Sandra Petronio, Ph.D. The lecture will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Louise D. Addicott and Yatish J. Joshi Performance Hall. The lecture is free to attend and an opportunity for students and faculty to interact.
Communications major Tess Pingel urges students to attend because she believes these lectures are not only interesting but also extremely beneficial for students.
“One benefit of going to the lecture series is it’s a good networking opportunity… and in my experience the speakers have been willingly to invest time and intention in discussions after. In the arts, we often get discouraged about our degree’s application in the real world, these lectures are a good way to explore different career options,” Pingel said.
Sandra Petronio is currently an adjunct professor of Informatics in the Department of Communication Studies at IUPUI, as well as an adjunct faculty member within the IU School of Nursing and IU School of Informatics and Computing.
Assistant Professor of Communication Studies, Andre L. Meluch Ph.D., who worked on organizing the lecture, wants students to know that the lecture is not limited to the scope of Communication Majors and Minors. While the lecture has a strong focus on health within family contexts, “[I]t has interdisciplinary applications. Students from many majors, such as Women’s and Gender Studies, Health Sciences, Social Work, Sociology, and Psychology will find this information applicable to their studies and professional interests,” Meluch said.
