Indiana University South Bend’s cross county team kicked off the racing season on Friday, August 21. The team travelled to Channahon, Illinois for the Saint’s Twilight Invite hosted by the University of Saint Francis. This was the teams first race of the 2018 cross country season and they were eager to get it started. The men’s cross-country team had five male runners compete in the invitational race, and the team placed eleventh. The team had an average time of 20:20.6. Leading the way for the IUSB men’s cross-country team was freshman Sean Carlin, who placed fifty-sixth overall with a time of 19:15.4. Freshman Erin Guzicki represented the Titans as the only female runner at the meet. However, she was unable to place overall because the Titan’s did not have enough girls to make up a team. Guzicki ran with a time of 23:55.2.
“With all things considered, I feel as if this was a good meet. The entire team has been dealing with aches and pains for a while now, so our times appear deceiving. With all this stated, all we can go is up. All of us are hungry for results and I know we all will hit our marks by conference,” said IUSB Cross Country team captain, junior Jacob Kasarda about Friday’s meet. The team’s next meet is September 7 in Westville, Indiana, at the Purdue Northwest Cross Country Classic.
