By TAYLOR WALDRON
Staff Writer/Web Editor
Not to sound cliché, but I already know this will be very long and wreak of over-sharing, so let’s get started with introductions. My name is Taylor Waldron and I’m a sophomore at IU South Bend. I’m a threatening five foot, four inches with big ideas and a lot of ambition. This is my second year with The Preface as a staff writer and this is my first year as the web editor. I am a journalism major with the hope to enter the music industry as an entertainment reporter and social media mogul.
Aside from the newspaper, I also work for the Unity Gardens and Ronald McDonald House of Michiana. These two nonprofit organizations have not only been wonderful places to work, but they have both inspired me to enter the business world via marketing and development. Due to this realization, it is my hope to pursue a dual major in journalism and marketing. If you ever need volunteer hours or just want to support great local causes, volunteer with either of these organizations.
When I’m not working or studying, I’m at concerts snapping photos, networking, and fangirling. Truly, I’m an emo kid at heart. I live for classic rock, pop-punk and the new alt-fusion bands that have been breaking into the scene over the last five years. My favorite local venue is Pierre’s Entertainment Center in Fort Wayne, IN, but what truly bloomed my love for mosh pit musicians was The Vans Warped Tour. For five years the Warped Tour was my punk-rock summer camp and it served as the catalyst for my career goals. For me, it wasn’t a phase. There’s nothing that can compare to the powerful energy of a mosh pit. It’s the happiest place in the world.
Now on to some fun facts. My food vices are hot wings, McChickens, too many Takis, and call me crazy, but McDonalds’ Sprite is far better than any other Sprite available. I like to refer to it as “Spicy Sprite.” The best place for hot wings in Michiana is hands down Wings Etc. Don’t trust BDUBS [Buffalo Wild Wings] fanatics…ever. Food brings very large amounts of joy to my life and without snacks, I would implode. Some of my favorite snacks are frosted animal crackers and Wheat Thins.
My favorite season is autumn and I’d rather be too warm than too cold. I prefer water over pop, but I definitely prefer Diet Coke over regular Coke. My favorite energy drink is cranberry flavored Redbull, but I don’t like to admit that I partake in those beverages. I typically snack while watching some of my favorite shows. I like to binge-watch my favorite programs which include “Wild ‘N Out,” “Jessica Jones,” “Shameless,” “Ru Paul’s Drag Race” and a variety of Netflix Originals.
The purpose of this article is to connect readers of The Preface to its writers. I hope I’ve met that challenge. I think that as a team, we at The Preface have an obligation to write for our audience, the students of IU South Bend, and to connect with that audience on an equivalent level. That’s my goal and I hope that the rest of our team will follow suit.
